a new (old) love
Sometimes when you liked a TV series 5/10/15 years ago, you remember it being awesome, but since you haven't seen it in 5/10/15 years, when you get the chance to rewatch it (finally) you find that it's seriously lacking or it's not as good as you remembered or it no longer fits you because you've changed in those years.

Whatever. You find that the show doesn't have the same magic for you anymore.

I was worried this would be the case when I finally got my hands on The Invisible Man Season 1 DVDs that just came out. I was worried it wasn't awesome like I remember.

So I netflixed the first disc, and discovered it was WAY better than I remembered.

For a show that's eight years old, the special effects have held up well, and I think Darien Fawkes is probably as complex a character you can have in a episodic scifi series. The show has a nice mix of one-offs and continuing storylines, and the supporting characters are marvelously shaded toward grays.

Best of all, the characters change and grow. Coming from shows where character development did not seem to happen (I'm looking at YOU, Stargate franchise) this was a huge surprise as I watched the first season over.

Not to mention...this show has one of those duos that makes it ten times more fun. Hello, Darien Fawkes and Bobby Hobbes are, in short, ABSOLUTE LOVE. I can't put into words how much I love them and their smartass banter, and their petty fights and the times they risk everything for each other, just -- *happy sigh*

So, yeah. This is new old obsession at the moment. I have re-watched Season 1 more than I can count, and I joined [info]scifi100 to do 100 Darien and Hobbes icons, and I am...totally absorbed. XD

Any other I-Man fans out there? Anybody?

Atashi sanjou! Hoshi's Introduction! Amy Grant, Barenaked Ladies, No Doubt, Fiona Apple, Etc.
Hey guys! I've arrived :3 I'm Hoshi the long-time watcher, but now new uploader of the group :D I've been friends with the head of the group, Megumi, for over 10 years. I'm one of her longest running friends, and the only one who I think can beat me is Ceri XD Who's the past member and namer of the group (I'm sure there's others who can beat me IRL XD)

Anywho, Megumi agreed to let me be a new member of the group, so here I am! (Bad Den-O jokes aside XD) And I've come with goods!

I decided I'd upload some personal meaning songs for my introduction. Blessed, their mostly English, but I highly doubt you people will mind XD Most of my J-Pop is from these wonderful ladies, but guess what! I have most of the archives! So if you ever need something from a past post- feel free to request it!

I do have a lot of American/English Music, though god bless we don't have shitloads of American music laying around the house.

But here are some of my personal favorite songs :3 Uploaded on Mediafire.

Artist: Amy Grant
Title: Hats
Album: Heart in Motion
Language: English
Length: 4:09
Size: 2.86 MB
I use to listen to Amy Grant when I was little, and granted I'm not one for Christian Music, her songs aren't very close to what you'd think of for her genre. This one is one of my favorites because of how silly it is :3 It's your typical 90s genre song, but it's unique, as it's mostly done with brass, drums and guitar. It's very minimal, but there's a lot of trumpet, and it's really good for how old it is - 1991!
[DOWNLOAD]

Artist: Barenaked Ladies
Title: One Week
Album: Stunt
Language: English
Length: 2:49
Size: 1.94 MB
The saddest part about this song is the fact I've memorized ALL of the lyrics. This song doesn't need to have much of a description if you listened to the radio in the mid-90s but!- This song's VERY FAST and the lyrics FLY by. It's horridly addictive though XD It's really hard to understand sometimes XD BUT! SALOR MOON REFRENCE~! Look for it X3
[DOWNLOAD]

Artist: No Doubt
Title: Just A Girl
Album: Tragic Kingdom
Language: English
Length: 3:29
Size: 2.39 MB
Ah- another song you should of heard in the mid-90s :3 I'm a tremendous fan of No Doubt, and this is probably their most famous song, and an anthem of girls world-wide :3 It's got its classic Tom Dumont guitar riff that WILL get stuck in your head. It's really one of their most rock-y songs they have, and one of the most classic 90s Pop songs of the era.
[DOWNLOAD]

Artist: Fiona Apple
Title: Paper Bag
Album: When the Pawn
Language: English
Length: 3:39
Size: 3.36 MB
One of the classic singer-songwriter girls. Yet another song I've memorized. Fiona Apple's a well-but-not-to-well known of the singer-songwriters of the 90s and she's one of my favorites <3 I originally found this on the old Napster, but this is off my album I finally found :3 It's very slow, but very driven in a slow way. It's got a steady piano (Played by Apple herself) leading the entire song, backed up by soft trumpets and drums. As most of her songs, there's no guitar. I love her lyrics, as they're great for anyone who's had to deal with a stupid boy.
[DOWNLOAD]

Artist: ATC
Title: Around The World (La La La La La)
Album: Around The World (La La La La La)
Language: English
Length: 3:36
Size: 4.97 MB
A most loved techno song :3 Again from the 90s, this one was REALLY popular as the techno wave just was starting to hit. It's most renowned for it's constant bell beat, and the bells run constantly through out the song, interchanging different pitches throughout. It's mostly drums and bells, but it's blended in awesome simplicity. These lyrics WILL get stuck in your head!
[DOWNLOAD]

Artist: Ian van Dahl
Title: Castles In The Sky [Radio Mix]
Album: Castles in the Sky [Single]
Language: English
Length: 3:45
Size: 3.44 MB
One of my all-time favorite Trance songs :3 Back when Trance hadn't been coined yet! This one has one of those eerie melodies that just carries you off into another world. The synth has a driving melodic beat and (what I think is) a vocal chorus sings softly in the background. I also love the metaphor of the song, you can really apply it to anything. I like to think it applies to earth in space :3
[DOWNLOAD]

Artist: Murray Head
Title: One Night In Bangkok
Album: One Night In Bangkok [Single]
Language: English
Length: 3:51
Size: 4.42 MB
One of my old obsessions I didn't find until recently XD I use to always squee when this came on when Jack FM use to be Star Radio. It's a classic track from the Chess musical. It's got a catchy drum beat and all sorts of classic asian instruments running ALL through it. It's harrowingly addictive.
[DOWNLOAD]

Artist: Daft Punk
Title: Digital Love
Album: Discovery
Language: English
Length: 4:58
Size: 4.56 MB
The track after Aerodynamic that Windsong posted. This is by the French duo Daft Punk, this album became Leiji Matsumoto's Interstella 5555. This is the third track of the album, where Shep dreams of Stella. This originally came to me on a former friend's CD she gave me. I didn't find out what it was until I heard it on my friend Joe's PSP in his car XD It's got a strong guitar riff running the whole song, and all of the song is synthed so strongly, hell if I can figure out the rest XD This is as addictive as Aerodynamic, and rightfully so. It's the happy love song of the album :3
[DOWNLOAD]

Artist: Ian Van Dahl
Title: Reason
Album: Best of Trance Vol 4
Language: English
Length: 2:58
Size: 2.05 MB
One of my favorites out of my early expeditions of trying to find Trance music. Ian Van Dahl again, and my favorite of the first Trance album I ever found. It's got a driving organ synth driving most of the song. Sadly It's insanely short D:
[DOWNLOAD]

Artist: Gnarls Barkley
Title: Crazy
Album: St. Elsewhere
Language: English
Length: 2:57
Size: 2.71 MB
Ah, an anthem for anyone who knows the true meaning of "Crazy". I love this song like no one should, because it's got such a meaning of what the definition of Crazy really is. It's got a really smooth rhythm of synchronized guitar and drums running consistently all through the song, and makes the song all the more fun. This one's fun to sing, and you'll love it stuck in your head :D
[DOWNLOAD]

Artist: Gwen Stefani
Title: Fluorescent
Album: The Sweet Escape
Language: English
Length: 4:17
Size: 3.94 MB
Gwen Stefani's music is kind of hit-and-miss, especially her second album "The Sweet Escape", which has a lot of crap on it. But this is one of it's Gems. It's got a nice beat running it, and it got lots of different 80s style keyboards alternating through the song. Plus! Gwen's Awesome voice! It makes me really wish I had a love this good D:
[DOWNLOAD]

Artist: Peach Hips
Title: Koisuru Otome wa Makenai
Album: PC Engine Single
Language: Japanese
Length: 4:57
Size: 4.54 MB
And to top it off, a Sailor Moon song! Probably one you've NEVER heard! It's from the PC Engine game from Japan, and I encoded it to mp3 just for you guys :3 It's your classic Sailor Moon song, but if you look up the lyrics they're the most genkai and girly lyrics in Sailor Moon fandom I think XD It's sure to be running though your head so much you have to hear it again and again XD I had this on repeat for a good few days when I first discovered it. IT'S THAT ADDICTIVE.
[DOWNLOAD]

-----------------------------------

I'm still working on getting my playlist ready, plus, I need a place to host it D:! But if you want anything from the old requests, I'm likely to have it. Plus, If you want anything that might be out of my father's CD collection (pics posted above XD), feel free. It's full of old Rock and Jazz and whatnot. Oh, we have all of the existing Frank Zappa albums, too. Feel free to request, I may even look it up if we don't have it :3

08 July 2008 @ 12:51 pm
I used my "must love dogs" icon for this.
Which was not a hard conclusion to come to. I feel emotionally drained right now, like I'm running on fumes again. I haven't got much left at the moment; everything since last night makes me feel upset and like the bar is knocking on "E."

Last night I went from work to the Mt. Laurel Animal Hospital to be with my dad and my brother as we had my dad's beloved dog, Mushu, put to sleep.

I said once, now four years ago, I suppose, that I would write a soft and loving post in tribute to our dog Emma when time had passed and I could, when the grief was not so near and not so personally mine. I was never able to do that. The truth is, the grief is always so personally mine, and always will be. The truth is, there is nothing I will be able to say that will make you understand with sympathy or empathy how much I loved our dog better than this:

I loved our dog. She was a joy in my life and I loved her so much.

And that's enough, I think. That's enough to make people understand in the way that people can and do understand the pain of others: it says everything that, well, that's everything you mean to say when you tell it in a longer story.

I think what we do, when we say things like this, is to want other people to find some way to love our lost loved one the same way we do. We want the world to know how deserving our loved one was, how wonderful and precious and valued. We try to make friends for them even after they're gone.

We can't, of course. We can't, but we try -- because that's the tribute we pay, that's how we show our love. We show that we want all the best things in the world for our loved one, we miss them, we revere them. We love them, and there are so many ways to express love in this world that it's sometimes amazing the world can manage to hold them all.

So it was hard, it was brutal, to be with my father as he put to sleep a dog he had loved from the moment he brought her home, a dog he took with him everywhere (everywhere), a dog he nursed through pills and gave daily subcutaneous injections to for a year as she struggled through the failing of her malformed kidneys and the disease that was stripping the calcium from her bones, and he had to make sure she got her anti-nausea medication every several hours. Even so, he was terrified to let her go. He was terrified of not knowing whether it was still too soon or the time had already come, terrified that maybe there was something more he could have done, terrified that maybe there wasn't.

I cried. I cried with as much dignity as I suppose a person can cry with a hand cupped to her face and snot rolling off her nose. It was silently, so I suppose, really, that was my only concession to dignity. It wasn't dignity I was looking for, not actually: I was silent because I felt the grief, the attention, and the comfort shouldn't belong to me. This was my father's dog, and she was as beloved to him as he was to her. The loss was his, and any pats on the shoulder that might've been mine I give to him freely, for whatever good they may do. I think that's a paranoid thought, maybe. I know he wouldn't have begrudged me any of it. But there it was, and it was all I could do, and so I did.

There was no attempt at dignity for him, and no need for it, of course. What dignity he has is what I will give him now, and what I gave him when I got home and my mother asked me how Dad was.

"Heartbroken," I told her.

The dignity is that I'll leave it at that, the better not to dissect his pain as I have no right to do, as we only have the right to do of our own.

He loved his dog. She was a joy in his life and he loved her so much.

It is everything that could possibly need to be said. Goodnight, Mushu, you were a really, really good dog. Thank you for everything.

more dieting
Today was my first 1200 day. According to my calculations, I made it in at around 1150 or so. Also, I think I am going to have to fight Claire for the cucumber. It's one of those things she just does NOT share. 1800 days were a cinch, even with Olly bringing me my Last Ever (for a long time anyway) PB KitKat.

We went grocery shopping and I got some stuff to keep me going, (including G&B, which I've calculated at around 17 calories per little square, or 4g ;)) so I'm feeling positive for the week. I don't know what's changed with my attitude but I'm not feeling depressed about dieting or hating myself this time around. Maybe it's just the knowledge that I *can* budget for things like a square of chocolate now and then, or even just knowing it's to the point where if I don't change my attitude and habits toward what I eat, I'm significantly shortening my life span.

Thanks for the best wishes and prayer guys, it's really raising me up. I've got half my weight to lose before I'm at a healthy BMI, so keep it up. <3<3

ETA:
If you have any ideas for low-cal lunch/dinners, let me know. Even stuff that may be obvious. For example, today I had baked chicken breast (no skin, boneless) with a slice of half-fat cheddar cheese melted on top, on toast with iceberg lettuce and a dash of pepper. Easy, and not rabbit food. (Though I need to not use white bread!) The calorie counter I'm using put it around 250-290, and that was using the caloric info for a raw chicken breast, not cooked.

Even though I know that this is breaking the semi-amused, semi-horrified tone of this post and is probably a bad idea from a writing point of view: I just wish people could learn to be kind to each other.

games? in MY gaming system??;
Man, I had completely forgotten what it was like to have more games available on hand than you know what to do with. This happened often back when I owned a modded PSX; I'd buy every RPG I laid my eyes on and would have a difficult time picking what to play. Right now I'm shifting between games; I downloaded around 15 to try.

The ones I've spent the most time on are probably Phoenix Wright and Harvest Moon (the girl version, not the uber buggy other one), because they've drawn me in the most. I started TWEWY this morning (Phlogistic, the undub version you sent me didn't work :( I'm playing the regular one orz), I gave the two Tales games a look (but the japanese, it makes me cry), I played through the first battle of FFTA2 (it gave me horrible FF12 flashbacks, fucking fat cockatrice and its fucking fat chicks ;_;), caught some pokémans (lol bidoof), played through the first 2 chapters of Rondo of Swords (WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT EXTREMELY EVIL FIRST CHAPTER. I-I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT I WAS DOING.), dated some pixel guys (WITHOUT LAG story of my life), sutured up some guys (Trauma Center is strangely rewarding in a "I'M SAVING THE LIVES OF PIXELS" sort of way) and I have a couple of others sitting around such as Hotel Dusk, Luminous Arc, Apollo Justice (which will wait for the completion of the PW games), and Rune Factory.

s-so many games waaaaahh

I was eyeing the Hoshigami remake, but the art is fugly. And that turned me off, because my priorities are awesome like that.

Also there is a DS game called Homie Rollerz. It's the stupidest damn name in the history of ever. Goddamn.

Also I ran out of ideas for the danjo (completely unrelated to all the above). I SHOULD BE DONE BUT IDK WHAT ELSE TO ADD OTL

Whyyyyy are all the guys available in harvest moon so fuglyyyy except for Rock who is a conceited jerk orz.
